Hi! My name’s Christina, and I’m a bride-to-be. As I write this, I’m three months out from my wedding day and I’m very excited to be a healthy bride.
I’ve been on the road to being fit, healthy and happy in my own skin for a few years now, with the occasional roadblock. Finding Soma Training was one of the greatest things that could’ve happened to me because the classes and programs taking place at The Fitness Lab were truly transformative for me. The Healthy Bride program is a great one if you’re in the Seattle area, but no matter where you are, working on fitness goals before the ‘big day’ is an important (if not a bit daunting) undertaking.
I’m here to share my journey with you for the next three months and let you know what life is like for a Real Life Healthy Bride.
My Wedding Motto and How it Applies to Fitness
Ever since my fiancé and I got engaged, we’ve used one guiding principal for our wedding: Easy & Awesome. If it’s not easy and it’s not awesome, we’re not doin’ it.
Those two words have helped us with everything from selecting vendors, choosing my dress, and making sure our wedding feels like us. And now, as I’m just months away from “The Big Day”, I’m focusing harder on my fitness, and I find myself using the Easy & Awesome motto as a guide to my personal health as well. wanted to share with you some of the things I’m finding Easy and Awesome about being a healthy bride.
Easy
- Workouts I can remember and do wherever I am – I’m not letting myself skip workouts on days when I’m traveling or too busy to make it to the gym. Body weight exercises can be done anywhere because you don’t need any equipment. A simple circuit of squats, lunges, sit ups and push ups is easy to remember and easy to do.
- Simple, quick healthy recipes – If it’s too much work for me to make a healthy meal, I’m more likely to order pizza, so I look for simple recipes that don’t take long to make.
- No crazy diets or cleanses – Any diet program that’s incredibly restrictive or hard to remember doesn’t fit with easy. I’d rather live by the rule of more fruits and veggies, less donuts. Easy.
Awesome
- Support from working out in a group – Sure I get an endorphin rush from the workout, but I also enjoy time spent with other women. I push myself harder when I see how hard my exercise buddies are working and I reap a great reward from comments from those who’ve seen me grow stronger.
- The way I feel when I’m taking care of myself – It’s simple, I have more energy and just feel physically better when I’m fueling my body with healthy meals and regular exercise.
- Allowing myself to enjoy this time – I’ve learned a lot about diet and exercise and one thing I’ve realized is that I’m more likely to binge on unhealthy options if I deny myself something I really like. I want to enjoy all the celebrations that come with this time of life, and not feel bad about the occasional glass of champagne. Moderation is key, but celebration is important!
Now ask yourself, what’s easy and awesome for you? How can you make your own wellness routine more easy or awesome.
